Sizing Up Sazet

Dear Diary…

Today we embarked on what I thought was going to be just another average job for our team; Boy was I wrong! We had to board a moving train, pose as guards, memory wipe an official, and replace some data cylinders with empty ones so no one was the wiser. Sounded pretty simple to me, but man we barely survived just getting to the right train car.

I’m sure he had a good reason, but I’m not sure why Gatts had us board in the middle of the train when it seems like we could have just boarded the train car where we had to enter. Whatever the reason, I’m confident it was a good one. We had a really tough time getting to car 8 though. We ran into some guards, some birds, and a few overpasses. I fell off the train twice! Tafo was able to grab me once but the other time was crazy! Gatts grabbed me but I then pulled him off the train and Vence grabbed Gatts saving us both!! For as weird and dark as Vence seems, he sure seems to be in the right place at the right time. It’s tough for me to show him how grateful I am for what he does for me and the team cause he just has this, “I’m the most important guy on the team” vibe. He was totally caught lying to us and it just seemed to be no big deal. Something isn’t right with him but he does get results.

When we finally made it to car 8 we were all exhausted and pretty beat up. Tafo dropped down and picked the lock of the door the rest of us stayed up top. Keth, without looking into the car, opens the door on the roof and drops down in, so I follow suit. Stupid! I should of looked!! There were six guys in there! SIX! Keth quickly took down 2 and I was able to tell the one guy to drop his weapon and kneel. It’s crazy this power I have just talking to people. Vence, Tafo, and Gatts all helped take down the remaining guards. But something strange happened, Keth got hit pretty hard in the face and was temporarily blinded. While he was blinded he took down the last guard. What? How could he do that not being able to see? Does he have the kind of power I do just uses it in combat? Sure seems like it. I’d like to talk about it with him but it’s clear he doesn’t trust me. Not sure how well it would go over if I acknowledged that I believe I have power. It’s probably better that it’s just left unsaid.

So after they killed all of the guards there was still the one left that I told to kneel. Knowing how the group is, I told the guy to give me his armor and jump off the train, thinking that this would give him a chance of survival, but the group responded as if I executed him. I don’t get it.

As we were healing ourselves and searching the bodies for anything helpful (found a couple of key cards) the door to train car 9 opens up and a few people come through opening fire on us. It’s clear they were not guards but looked like another crew, not sure what they were doing though, because instead of us being able to ask any questions they killed themselves when it was clear they were going to lose the battle. (All except one who was knocked unconscious) Everyone got a piece of the action this time except Tafo, he was temporarily blinded like Keth was last battle. I told a couple of them to disarm and kneel and they did it. But when I tried on this other guy I failed twice, which he was then able to land a couple of heavy hits on me. I have really got to figure this power out.

Again, we heal up and then put on the guard’s armor, trade out the canisters, and prepare to move to car 2. Vence stayed behind to question the one unconscious guy. As we were progressing through the train cars we encountered a guard. Gatts opened fire and killed him. Not sure why he thought it was necessary since we all look like guards because we put the armor on for that very reason. Gatts confuses me sometimes. But again, I’m sure he had a good reason and there was just something I didn’t see.

When we arrived at the door of train car 2 we could hear blaring music coming through the door. Tafo and Gatts worked together to get the door opened and so we all entered but Keth who stayed in car 3 to watch our backs.

I quickly realized the official that we needed to coerce to help us and then wipe the memory of was Varan, my brother. Not good. I was quite excited at first to see him but his greeting was anything but warm telling me I was dead to him. It was quite troubling and confusing. He blamed me for his imprisonment and told us to leave and revealed he was carrying a lightsaber. As I stood there in shock, he told Gatts to attack his friend which he then turned towards me and started giving me those crazy eyes of his.

Understanding Varan was using the same power I have, I told Gatts not to attack us/me which exhausted him, he then dropped to the floor and of course that’s when Keth walks through the door, sees MY brother and then looks at Gatts on the floor and grabs me and puts me in a choke hold. I was glad that Tafo and V-YDO5 quickly told him I didn’t need to be choked out. (Vence joined us and got brought up to speed by V-YDO5)

Seeing how physical Keth got, Varan told him to attack his friends, I again, tried to use the same power to tell Keth not to hurt his friends. I think I was successful because once I told him not to, he turned and hit me. What seemed to be simultaneous was Tafo shooting the lightsaber off of Varan’s hip, destroying it and Keth dropping me like a wet rag. As I was lying there bleeding out, feeling like I only had a breath or two left Tafo knelt down next to me and started applying pressure to my wound and I don’t quite know how, but he saved my life. As I was lying there half conscious, I vaguely saw Varan fall to the floor, lifeless. It looked as if Gatts killed my brother.

MY THOUGHTS:

My brother was the sole reason I am out here in space with this group. The pursuit of my brother has cost me my place in the senate, my home on Coruscant, and today, almost my life. Was he brain washed? He seemed to be what one might call a dark jedi, using his abilities for evil, for himself. What would that make us then? We use what we have for ourselves and our own agenda. How are we any different from Varan? Or Tarkin?? Or the Empire??? I have a lot of questions now, but one thing I do know, I have to learn to harness this power I have and do it quickly.

So much power…

I don’t know how to explain what happened the other night. I went to force that guard to take the Glytteral so that he would not be able to report us to Jabba, but like most of the arrogant idiots we bring on the ship, he didn’t understand just how much pain I can inflict.

But this time was different… I was able to force him without using a blade. I just… willed it… and it happened.

This is the power that Asher spoke about … It is what we need to defeat our enemies! I must learn to harness this power.

Suddenly Asher’s voice came through the hull of the ship, “Vence!”

I looked around to see if Keth noticed it, but he was passed out on his bunk. “Yes Master?”

“I felt a presence in the Force. It seems that you have learned about the power we spoke of?” came the voice again.

Hmm… He is more powerful than I originally though. This must be another aspect I have yet to learn.

“Yes… But I still have not found the Devil’s Blue Eye. I apologize that I have not been able to contact you. Things have been… complicated. We have been enslaved by Kaltho the Hutt.”

“That is not a problem. Ask Kaltho about the amulet, he will give you a starting point.”

He wants me to work with the slug? He must not know what he did to me.

“Master, can we trust a Hutt lord who mistreats those who should be his most powerful allies?

“Trust me, Vence. Trust me. I am a master seeking an apprentice. You are a worthy candidate but without the amulet, you are not ready. Contact me when you have it.” And with that the voice was gone.

Later that morning we all gathered to go over this train heist. Keth seemed distant. I will have to check on him later. So far the plan seemed good except a couple things: We are not equipped for a good heist. I brought this up and asked for some of the funds to buy armor. I had heard of some technology that will render the wearer even more invisible than the last armor I had.

Almost on cue, Xan and Gatts had objections. I am pretty sure that Xan told me that I was foolish for not selling what we took from that rare weapons dealer for funds.

Are they that stupid? Do they not remember all the times my sword saved them? All the times they sent me in to scout ahead? I seem to remember a time when Xan lay bleeding at the feet of a Jedi and it was MY gear that saved his sorry hide. Maybe next time I will let him bleed a little longer… or maybe the Findsmen would love to give him their special treatment. How would the vain Falleen enjoy eating his own flesh? When I learn to use this power, they will not be able to stop me anymore.

Fine… I will let them maintain their control over the money… for now. I told them that I will get my gear without their help. Where is Vreth? I need to set up a meeting with the “Almighty Kaltho”

I will see just how “almighty” he is…

I ended up meeting with Kaltho and he was more resourceful than I thought. He knew of Asher and even told me that the Devil’s Blue Eye was here on Nar Shadda, in the clutches of some Hutt Prefect. He even gave me a way in as long as I steal some data pads for him on the side.  Now I just need to convince the group to wait for a couple hours…

Well that could have gone better! The group saw through the lies I told them.

I will have to get better at this if I want to learn the power.

They did agree to wait but I had to choose to take one of them with me. I chose Tafo because out of anyone here who can work a computer he is the most logical. And I think I can hide the amulet from him.

The mission ended up being a success…. Well … with the exception of some close calls with Tafo trying to climb the walls. You would think that for as bird like as his species is, they would be able to fall a little more gracefully… I did actually feel bad about that one.

With Tafo’s help I was able to get in undetected because he was able to wipe the footage. I got the amulet and the data pads. Kaltho even gave me the money I needed for more gear. Repayment would come later he said.

Careful Kaltho. If you play your cards right and I will be come your greatest asset, or I will be the blade that strikes you down…

- LATER THAT DAY -

ONE DAY WE WILL LEARN TO NAVIGATE THIS GALAXY WITHOUT INCIDENT! Just once I would love to arrive at our destination without a problem.

Just another moment that Xan will forget about how I saved the group from destruction…

We arrived at Ruusan with plenty of time to buy gear. I found the armor I need and it is pretty. We also stocked up on the stuff we would need for the heist as well as a speeder and a driver who will be able to drive fast enough for us to board a moving train. We have to get a board the train, memory wipe some official, replace some data cylinders with empty ones so none are the wiser, and finally, my favorite, execute some guards and take their place.

May the Force be with us

… hmm… why does Keth keep giving me that look?

Breaking the coup
The 'spice' of life

Harvesting glyterryl is a dirty job, but luckily it's now over.  We found the weak spot in this ring of thieves and we exploited it.  I actually admire the slaves for being resourceful in their current situation, but they were too trusting.  What was difficult for them was a simple executed plan for our crew.

We harvested 1 and a 1/4 extra portions for Tafo to use as bait.  It only partially worked.  I guess getting beat up by Jalek will have a lesson attached to it.  Efficiency is key to survival.  Talk about inefficient, Xan talked his way into trouble again and nearly blew the whole plan for us.  Luckily he has the Force as an ally, even though he uses it in a most strange way.  If he can better learn about what he carries he will be powerful.  Until then, he remains a mystery.

Vence and I took care of our end of the deal.  What Vence had in stealth, I made up for in being resourceful.  We didn't have to agree to bring back proof the job was done; we just knew it was necessary.

Vreth is as good of an ally as we could want in our current position.  This guy is blunt, resourceful, and could handle himself in a fight if needed.  He also knows how to play the game with the Hutts, which are lessons we have had to learn the hard way on this journey.  Anyway, he held up his end of the deal by docking with the ship so we could head out of the colony with 3 crates of spice in tow.  Grabbing Jalek on the way out was a nice bonus…Jabba will like the chance at a personal response to him.

On the way to Tatooine, I had a most disturbing sense.  I've sensed some raw energy brewing in Vence for some time, but I didn't know where it would come out.  Jalek was the recipient, but it felt like I was in the room with them.  Dark, menacing and urgent.  Vence has been my greatest ally among the crew.  He bears Gand-sized scars that I could have easily bore myself.  His overwatch breeds even greater confidence during battle.  However, this raw power is something that will change the game.  Maybe for our good, maybe not.  If I know Vence, he will partner his power with control and purpose.  It may be key to our payback on the Empire.  But it is all so new and strange to me.  I will keep this to myself and contemplate the coming events.

Upon arrival, Jabba was pleased and gave us the opportunity to facilitate a regime change at the spice colony.  We gladly obliged.  Galynx killed without principle or purpose.  That made it an easy decision.  Some Hutt gold in our pockets helped too.

Gatts proved himself resourceful once again and got a really good price on the goods with his Black Suns contacts.  A finder's fee to the Suns and a well-deserved bonus to Vreth and the girls means everyone is happy.  Of course, we kept a crate of spice for the 'boss'.  Kaltho is a leverage point that must be managed well.  His favor will translate into advantage for us.

The next mission: a train heist.  This at least sounds closer to our skill level.  The payout is closer to our skill level as well.  A couple more jobs like this, and Kaltho may outlast his usefulness.  Or, we play the game a bit longer until the clear advantage manifests itself.  Either way, our resolve is steeled.

-Keth Ordana-

Quiet Riot
All that glitteryll is gold

Dearest Lenya,

I’m not certain you’ll ever receive these logs. I’m trying not to give up hope. However, you should know that the worst has happened and I’ve been enslaved, along with the crew I’ve told you about, by Caltho the Hut. I don’t know when, if ever, I’ll be free again. But, I have faith in my crewmates and the Force that aides all of them. Who can say when we’ll have a chance to make our move, but I sense it will be soon and we will either be free of Caltho forever or you and I will meet next in the netherworld of the Force.

My current situation is far worse. My crew and I have been sent to a slave, glitteryll mining operation on Ryloth that is run by Jabba the Hut. Our presence as mining slaves is only a ruse to uncover a plot to insight a slave riot. However, the physical suppressant (“decontaminant” they call it) we were injected with was clearly not part of the shirade. I feel as though all my strength and my senses are sapped, like a lethargy that won’t go away. Our only lifeline is a transponder that was implanted into V-YD05 by our Caltho handler, Vreth.

The perils of glitteryll mining is also very real. Slaves that don’t meet quota are forced to fist fight each other to the death and of course there are the spiders to contend with as well. On my first mission, I was installed as a glower – gunner on a speeder piloted by Gatts to lead the glitteryll spiders from their webs while the rest of the team harvested three doses of spice each. I was injured twice by the spiders as we herded them away from the team. Gatts remained unharmed in the venture. The rest of the team struggled to meet quota at first, but Xan managed over 5 doses which he shared with the rest of the team.

Five hours later we were back at it. This time with V-YD05 piloting and Gatts manning the gun turret. I helped the team to harvest. It’s tough work in the dark, but I managed more than three doses as did Vence. Our entire team made it back to the mining camp, over quota. Few teams survive even this many spice trips intact.

We’ve done far more than most could expect given the circumstances. We learned that the planned slave riot is really cover for a glitteryl heist. One of the guards, Jalec, has been skimming from the extra doses and is planning on moving the shipment soon. I’ve been enlisted by Jalec to help him move the spice when his ship arrives. Many of my crewmates have been approached to aid a separate plot by two of Jalec’s slave cohorts. The slaves plan on creating a riot and double crossing Jalec by making off with the glitteryll in the confusion.

We have our own plans to assassinate the thieving slaves and kidnap the guard Jalec; making off with the extra glitteryl too. It will take some cunning on my part to get Jalec to unlock his storage hangar and some dirty work from my crew mates to dispose of the slaves, but we’ve done harder things than these over the last several months.

I hope you don’t think ill of me in scheming in this way. The guard and the slaves – they aren’t family like you and I. They aren’t like the members of my crew. They are outsiders and you’ve been taught from youth as have I, that outsiders are not to be pitied by misfortune. Besides, I’m haunted by the possibility that my slavery to Caltho might mean failure in my mission and that failure might doom you and our beloved child to this very sort of slavery. I wouldn’t put it past the Ryn to go to such lengths.

Stay safe and hidden by the Force until I return.

All my love,

Tafo

Long Road Ahead...
(an abrupt end for Jevi Koyle)

The crew managed not to kill all the Winged Guards and Jevi’s crew in the hangar. Not that things weren’t headed that way…

Vence decisively ended the life of Jevi Koyle. After thrusting his weapon into Xan’s chest, it was clear, someone was about to die. One shot. One kill. Vence fired his disguised illegal weapon and dropped Jevi to the ground.

Things most likely would have continued to escalate from this point, but Gatz  still possessed enough clarity of mind in all of the confusion to fire his weapon, on stun, at Vence. Only because Vence was worn down from the confrontation, was this one shot able to take him out of commission.

One by one each person started to exhibit some measure of control. Keth was the last to relinquish the battle and surrender as each person in the team was locked down with binders.

It was mostly a quiet ride to Winged Guard Central Command.

The team was ushered into a large holding room.  The city administrator looked displeased with the group and instructed them to submit for processing. Each person in the room entered one of the processing rooms. Once again, Keth was the last to  surrender, and only after filling the room up with a toxic gas did he comply.

Charges were presented to each individual; mostly accurate, partially inflated. Each person was interrogated, and each person was summarily found guilty by Cloud City’s leader Lando Calrissian. Their sentence? 20 years, hard labor for everyone… well everyone except Vence; his sentence was 30 years.

Kaltho the Hutt, who lost the race because of Gatz’ assistance to his rival and the one who sent Jevi’s crew to deal with the crew in the first place, saw an opportunity in the crew. He had heard of them before and he knew they were resourceful. This time he was able to taste for himself what it felt like to go against the “Mavericks of the Outer Rim.” Kaltho struck a deal with Lando for the whole crew. He would own them, and knowing Kaltho, he would make good use of them too.

Kaltho knew he would need to break them first. He had broken many before them… and they would be no different.  A month in solitary and this rowdy bunch was eating out of his hand.  A test of profit and reliability. Their first mission. Go to Tatooine and conduct a trade with Jabba the Hut and kill off a few nobodies….

A new ship with Kaltho’s man as the commander. Vreth Basato didn’t engage in much conversation, and he is intimidating enough to keep any small talk to a minimum.  The two slave sisters, Jessiel and Gynnel Patha tried to be as helpful as possible. A run-down ship, three new people to trust (or hate) and a lack of gear and weapons made the first voyage in a month a pretty miserable one for the crew.

On Tatooine the crew made quick work of conducting a profitable trade. A quick side mission to get some weapons put some decent gear back in the hands of the crew. To what cost will be determined.  The deal, orchestrated by Vreth put him one favor up as far as he was concerned. A necessary action in order to earn the trust or favor of the crew.

Cloud City Arend Shen's Hangar
"That's My Lightsaber"

The crew, in an attempt to sabotage the cloud racer owned by Kaltho the Hutt, found themselves face to face in a confrontation with their old acquaintance, Jevi Koyle. Attempting to return the favor of sabotage, Jevi and a few henchmen stormed the hangar. A conflict between the two groups ensued until the local authority, the Winged Guard, showed up and ended the confilct.

Note 1: Xanatos used his knowledge of the force to trick the Winged Guard captain into demanding that Jevi Koyle return a weapon (lightsaber) to Xanatos. Jevi, who seemingly lost all patience with this kind of force trick plunged his blade through Xanatos' chest. Although the wound was not mortal, Jevi asked Xan if he still wanted his lightsaber.

Note 2: During the conflict, one of Kaltho's men was killed by Vance
